The next time you see an ad with an Indian in feathers selling cigarettes or “peace tokens,” think twice about how comfortable we all are with racism. We, as a society, have become comfortable ignoring the Native American population here in the United States. It’s the perfect illustration of the childish logic of “if I ignore it, it will go away.” The United States will never be able to hold its head high, truly, until we’ve confronted these issues.
